On 28 October 2026, the Board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria appointed Dr. Mark Dybul as the organisation’s next Executive Director. He will begin his four-year term in early 2027. Peter Sands will continue to lead the Global Fund until then.
Dr. Dybul is a medical doctor who has worked on HIV and public health for more than 25 years. He led the Global Fund as Executive Director from 2013 to 2017, and earlier helped create the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), serving as U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator from 2006 to 2009. He is a professor of medicine at Georgetown University and co-founder of its Center for Global Health Practice and Impact.
“Mark understands that the future of global health depends on greater country ownership, self-reliance and sustainable health systems.”
Bience Gawanas, Vice-Chair of the Global Fund Board
